In a community of human beings working together, the well-being of the community will be the greater, the less the individual claims for himself the proceeds of the work he has himself done, i.e.the more of these proceeds he makes over to his fellow workers, and the more his own requirements are satisfied, not out of his work, but out of work done by others.

I have worked in the education and care sector since I left University where I gained a Bachelor degree in Social Activities back in 2002. While I was at University I had always wanted to work with people who need special support or care and it was through volunteering with Camphill Village Trust, Pericles, Ruskin Mill Trust I wanted to support children and young people with additional support needs. I really enjoy being able to provide positive experiences and being able to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Alongside the main job I founded Kibbutz Foster Village as it is important to me to continue to further my knowledge and experience when working with children and young people. I was inspired by Robert Owen’s philosophy and Kibbutzim in Israel and for that, we decided after Years of research for the best system to found Kibbutz Foster Village and help recreate the traditional feeling of community spirit.

My education is in Textile, I like –craft, art and woodwork. I enjoy doing handmade products. I worked in business sector and most of the time managing my own or other companies businesses. My main goal and dream is to create a better place to live not just for my children, but for everyone else. I am inspired by the Robert Owens philosophy and all his achievments, dreams and vision.

Later worked, volunteered and visited: Kibbutzim-Israel, Camphill Village Trust-UK, Bruderhof community-UK, Pericles-UK, Methernitha Switzerland, Marinaleda-Spain. My experience helped me to develop as person, meet exceptional people and learn more about the community way of life. Also motivated me more about cooperative and sustainable living. For that reason we would start this project called Kibbutz Foster Village UK.

William Russ

Permaculture Teacher

I have always had a great love for the outdoors and now passing on that love and teaching children the skills they will need to create a harmonious, ecological and abundant society is my purpose and passion. With a background in children’s charity work, fundraising and social enterprise I have, for the last 4-5 years, been working in outdoor education and play-based settings with children in their primary and early years, guiding their development and delivering child-led curriculums increasingly influenced by forest school and permaculture principles. I have also volunteered in children’s homes, schools and community projects around the world.

With qualifications and experience in Permaculture, Forest School, Early Years Education, Event Management, Social Enterprise, Allotments, Community Organising and International Development, I have built up a diverse portfolio of knowledge, skills and competencies. Taking on leadership roles and playing an active role in the development of the organisations I have been part of.

I am supporting this project as I believe cooperative and regenerative education and living is not only beneficial for us as communities of people. But vital in creating a fairer society, tackling the climate emergency and raising the next generation to be happy, freethinking and independant while having a strong community around them for support.
